Challenge
In large organizations using Happeo, finding the right colleague — by role, department, or expertise — was unnecessarily hard. The existing people directory lacked meaningful filtering and rich profile context.
Finding colleagues required knowing their exact name, with no smart filtering by department, role, or location to help narrow the search.
Profile cards showed minimal information, making it difficult to understand a person's role or expertise at a glance.
Without robust filtering options, employees in large organizations couldn't efficiently narrow down the people they were looking for.
The directory felt like a static list rather than a tool for building organizational connections and understanding the team.
Solution
The redesigned People Directory introduced smart filtering, richer profile previews, and a more visually engaging layout — transforming a static list into a powerful discovery tool.
Filter colleagues by department, location, job title, and other organizational attributes — making it easy to find exactly who you need.
Preview key information about a colleague directly from the directory without needing to open a full profile page.
Enhanced search with better suggestions and more relevant results, supporting both exact and fuzzy name matching.
Improved avatar handling, presence indicators, and a cleaner layout make the directory more scannable and visually engaging.
Impact
Users could now find the right colleague in significantly fewer steps, reducing time spent navigating the directory.
Rich profile previews helped new employees understand the organization faster, speeding up onboarding.
More people using the directory more frequently, strengthening organizational connections across teams.
Conclusion
The People Directory redesign demonstrated how thoughtful UX can transform a simple utility into a meaningful organizational tool. By combining smart filtering with rich profile context, we made Happeo a better place to understand and connect with your colleagues.
